Phillips Quadrante project successfully implemented
Project engineering approach gives Bianor a competitive edge over Far East.
Bianor supplies Philips with plastics parts and components for the new stylish square-shaped Senseo coffee machine. Thanks to Bianor’s project management and engineering approach Philips was able to launch this project on schedule and within budget on a global scale.
The early involvement of the supplier enabled to implement design improvements to simplify the manufacturing process and to reduce costs. Bianor provided engineering support to the Philips design team. Bianor’s engineering team managed the production, testing, delivery and production start up of 32 complex moulds. The project included the supply and assembly of three key sub-components next to the supply of all plastics parts of the unit. The task was challenging because of the technical complexity and the tight implementation schedules. The close business co-operation and support enabled a smooth and timely introduction of the Senseo Quadrante on the market.
The success of this project once again confirmed the company's competence in the field of engineering, project management and production. It also showed the advantages of early supplier involvement for both client and supplier.
“They can really think out-of-the-box. Many people thought the Quadrante would be just another Senseo although in a square jacket, but it is not. The Senseo Quadrante contains a lot of improvements; it has a very modern stylish design and is attractively priced. Bianor offered value for money in terms of approach, flexibility and price for the supply. The pro-active approach of Bianor was crucial in the development and implementation.” said Marco Massarani, Purchasing Team Leader of Philips Customer Lifestyle division.
Early supplier involvement and co-engineering is the solution for supporting customers in developing and launching new products. Bianor employees participate actively in the development and design stage; assure a good alignment of design and manufacturing. The support of the team includes not only technical solutions and project management but also design, and even changes in production technology. Therefore substantial reduction of the cost of manufacturing and R&D is possible.
“Thanks to the close cooperation in this project, we learned that the design of new products can be optimized, so that their implementation will not generate unnecessary costs and delays. The team working with us, has contributed to design improvements, reducing the complexity of the manufacturing process. In the end we received excellent service and the project had a very fast implementation and ramp-up" - said Kees Donkers, Director New Product Introduction Supply Europe Philips Consumer Lifestyle.
The new square-shaped Senseo coffee maker, Senseo Quadrante is an evolution of the popular line of Coffee Systems, which so far always had a curved shape. The new coffeemaker stands out with an interesting design and excellent brewing quality. The market launch was very promising and the product was well received by both retail and consumers.
